INTENTIONAL CHOICE

THE DIFFERENCE

You have probably heard several variations of Martha and Mary story as it relates to worship and service.  However, in today's blog I would like you to look at the difference of intentional choice.

Both had a choice to choose at the moment Jesus showed up in their home. One chose to be troubled at the tasks at hand in the kitchen.  The other chose not to let it matter at the moment because something else had more of her heart and attention.

Both were appropriate- It was not like one thing was better than the next.  However, one was performed under much stress, fretting and worrying about the details and fussing because it seemed unfair that her sister just sat there while she was doing all the work. Your intentional choice should make a difference at the end of the day.

TODAY'S FOCUS:  THE ESSENTIAL THING

Life itself will present many challenges and opportunities.  The choice to choose can create stress and bring on negative thinking and emotions.  However, in making an intentional choice you must choose the thing that is essential for the moment.  This can vary from one individual to the other depending on your view and perspective on life.

You must be intentional about your choice.  Learn to sit down just to listen.   You must also be alert and mindful of interruptions from outside influences that will accuse you of the choice that really matters.

There will be times that you will have to decide whether to serve or to sit.  You will need to determine the greater or more important need. Search your spirit to see whether you have a Mary's heart in a Martha's World, and have the courage to chose the better part.

As you think about your decision read Luke 10: 38-42 - Lets' discuss:
What do you consider as essential right now?
What pulls you away from choosing the better part?
Can you sit down for a while just to listen?
What are you worked up or fussing about?
Are there any interruptions?
How can you find balance?

I Recommend you read the book, Having a Mary's Heart in a Martha's World by Joanna Weaver for a great experience of balancing service and worship.

Whether it is in your physical or spiritual life, you will need to consider if it is  essential to organize and  prepare like Martha or sit and be replenished like Mary.  Like a busy housewife is it the time to continue cleaning or is the time to eat a nourishing meal?  So likewise in the spiritual aspect, it may be essential for you to make the intentional choice of sitting quietly to hear what the Lord is saying in this hour.

Remember, the choice to choose intentionally is in your hands.  Don't be anxious or jittery.  You must remain focus on what should matter most at the moment. Don't get worked up over nonessential things.  Check you spirit, and watch out for interruptions of accusations. Choice the part that no one can take away from you.

God Bless you and keep the Faith!
