THE DUSTY RUSTY KNIFE WIFE
Have you forgotten about your appearance? I'M GUILTYMY CONFESSION....
As a bank manager I would be from very early in the morning looking like a million plus bucks, (even if I didn't pay much for the outfits because I was a bargainer and always looking for a good sale woman), because duty called for the professional look. Even when I got home in the evening that mentality of appearance is key stayed with me and I put great effort even with my evening wear. In that season, if I had to go to the next door grocery store, post office or out of the house I would have a cover magazine image.
My mother and father were also great and classy dressers, and we grew up wearing frilly socks and ribbons at home.
But....
I have noticed over the past year, since I have given up that profession to engage in personal ministry to my husband and calling, I have neglected to be a crown to my husband and instead have taken on that trait of The Dusty Rusty Knife wife. Not out of oppression or depression, lack or want (because I have more than my closet and drawers can hold), but because I have become comfortable with a t-shirt dress or a wrap, and haven't paid attention to my nails, hair and other niceties. Not that I am untidy (far from it) but the professional career me has become a regular backyard cleaning woman. After a hard day that's what often greets my husband at the door.
You may say, comfort is in at home. But does it have to be the oldie? While I can agree, what happens when someone honks at your door? You run to the bathroom brush your hair throw on a hat and change your rags splash on perfume (even if you haven't had a bath for the day) and come out smiling.
OUCH - I WAS GUILTY!!
OK NOW THAT I GOT IT OUT..... WHAT'S YOUR CONFESSION?
Why can't you do the same for your husband?
TODAY'S FOCUS: CHECK YOUR SELF IMAGE "The Dusty Rusty Knife Wife husband is looking for the woman he married!"
Do a self check as we look at the following:
- How is your self image?
- Are you a Dusty Rusty Knife Wife?
- Are you a Crown to your husband?
- Is your appearance an embarrassment and speaks poorly of Him?
- Do you need to upgrade your wardrobe?
DO YOU NEED AN INWARD MAKE OVER?
What's happening on the inside could also be a reflection of your outward appearance.
Although it wasn't totally true for me as far as unhappiness, being down or have depressed feelings, I realize that because I was moving I was constantly in a work mode. That took priority over how I looked and kept myself.
LET'S DO A CLOSET SEARCH
What's also amazing is that some Dusty Rusty Knife wives do not get rid of the old stuff. (The old stain up dress, slack and torn undies with the elastic broken, the popped slippers, the holey outfits etc...) No sooner they go in the wash they get put on the top in our drawers and worn immediately.
Even if you are not married, it is important to start now, because practice makes perfect and permanent. Like Ruth you never Know if and when Boaz is watching.
Proverbs 12:4 (KJV)
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
- Give yourself a makeover and make his homecoming exciting
- Remove the temptations around you. Clean out your closet and drawers of old, tarnish or broken things
Remember...
You must win your husband with your manner of living with meekness and confidence on the inside which will radiate on the outside. Don't let yourself go!
TO HELP REKINDLE THE FLAME AND KEEP HIM INTERESTED, KEEP LOOKING GOOD!
Keep the Faith
Virtuous Jewel
