HE IS NOT IN THE WIND OR EARTHQUAKE
So often we feel that the only place God exists is in large congregations, crowd/masses, or among the noise of religious services and activities. Along with that our busy lives takes us to have express or "on the run" dialogue with Him. We pray, but our hearts are not open to receive. Sometimes we talk and never give him a chance to speak- we really listen.God is not impressed with our philosophies or performances. He is not interested in how good, educated or anointed we are. He wants our total surrender and yielding of our will in obedience to Him. Even when we are in trouble we pray with confusion and preoccupied theories which hinders the flow of the divine presence of God to have free reign. He deserves our full attention.
Other times our expectations of how He will answer are based on head knowledge, opinions of others or what we think it should feel, look or be like. Take a look at Elijah's experience in 1 Kings 19:11 (KJV)
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
Like Elijah are you mistakenly looking for Him among the noise of the wind or earthquake?
Are you attentive to His command to stand before Him?
Can you stand still and long enough to listen?
What is your response to His prompting?
TODAY'S FOCUS: BE SENSITIVE
Are you too busy to listen? God wants to develop your sensitivity. However, if you are too busy to listen, too preoccupied to hear or too easily distracted, you may miss Him.
Elijah was placed in a position to stand before the Lord and was distracted by the loud noise of the winds renting the mountains, rocks breaking in various pieces, perhaps trees shaking and strong winds blowing debris all around him. This he thought would definitely be God speaking to him.
But he was most astonished like many of you would be that this was not how God chose to speak to him that day. God wanted Elijah to be sensitive to hearing Him not by the actions around him but by the voice within.
As you reflect on the scripture above let's discuss:How comfortable are you to stand, doing absolutely nothing as you wait to hear from God?
Are you sensitive to hearing His voice?
Are you sensitive to His touch?
Remember, it is not in the clamor and grandeur that God always speak. It will take your keen ear and sensitivity to listen to His voice, follow His leading and direction and be responsive. He will often times move softly, quietly and gently. The reason He does is because He wants to develop your sensitivity to hearing Him. Stand still, listen and respond!
God Bless and Keep the Faith!
